Deadpool: The Valentine’s Day Movie

Hi everyone!

I know what you are wondering: why does she consider Deadpool as THE movie of Valentine’s day? Don’t cdeadpool comicconouples go see some romantic movies?

Well, you are true on the last one. Some couples actually go see a romantic movie and that is totally okay, but I went to the theater this Valentine Day and I was seating close to the screen (the fourth closest row in front of it)! All around the theater, there were couples that were waiting to watch this movie…

And it is totally worth it. All the way through the movie, I was laughing and smiling. The movie is filled with jokes and simple dialogues that put emphasis on the realism of the character’s personality. This feeling is due to the awesome acting of Ryan Reynolds who bring this comic character in a new way. I am seeing Deadpool as a new kind of superhero, because, usually, we see them as strong and serious guys who are always ready to help others.

Of course, for the last part, it is what Deadpool does (most of the time), but the decision to make him killing bad men and deadpoolbeing a joker totally transforms the whole movie. It actually make us feel like he is closer to our reality than « normal » superheroes. Personally, I approved this choice.

As for the villain, Francis/Ajax,  he is the perfect antagonist for Deadpool. He has the same traits mostly as the protagonist, but more on the dark side. The way Ed Skrein is playing him makes us want to love to hate this villain, to want him to fix everything he did.  And this is perfect, because Skrein makes us feel the same grief Deadpool is feeling about him.

Now, let’s talk about the effects. The effects are amazing. Even though we are looking at a slow motion scene or a hand recovery (you will see what I am talking about), it was made to feel what Wade (real name of Deadpool) is actually feeling in his head, what are his thoughts. This use of Deadpool’s perspective projects us in his universe and makes us discover his true side.

A special mention that I have to make about this movie is that I really, really appreciate the fact that he was talking to the camera, telling us things that we were actually thinking like: « this wasn’t suppose to be a superhero movie? » and that is the « magic » (I don’t know if it is the right word, but you understand what I mean) of this movie. Because by using this strategy, you know that what you are thinking at that momentfrancis is normal, that the movie was made to make you ask that and looking for those clues and most of all that you are part of it.

As a last word, I highly suggest you go to the closest theater you can find and watch it with your friends, family and/or boyfriend/girlfriend.

WARNING: Coarse language, violence, nudity and sex scenes are present in the movie. Here in Quebec, it is only rate as 13+, but remember that there is a reason that the film is rated R everywhere else, okay? Don’t bring children with you. It is not a usual superhero movie.
